I like people who improvise a career, who just start doing something and eventually get really good at it.
This seems to be the case for Anton Corbijn.
In his case Imperfection is also what makes his photographic style unique.
That grain that hits your eyes almost before the full picture, the inversion of layers where the subject is often not in focus.
There is a kind of mix between portrait and street photography. (Famouz, 1989 )
Peripheries, armchairs, hotels, seaside, statues, walls. Those are often the setting where Corbijn captures his famous subjects, be they the U2, Johnny Cash or David Bowie.Their eyes and gestures reveal humans in search of a sense more than celebrities.
The use of shadows in the L.A. series is also telling about multifaced complex charachters, not glamorous at all.(Star Trak, 1996)
