“Una vez me mandó que fuese a desafiar a aquella famosa giganta de Sevilla llamada la Giralda, que es tan valiente y fuerte como hecha de bronce, y sin mudarse de un lugar es la más movible y voltaria mujer del mundo.”
(Cervantes, Don Quijote de la Mancha. Segunda parte. Capítulo XIV)“On one occasion she bade me go and challenge the famous giantess of Seville, La Giralda by name, who is as mighty and strong as if made of brass, and though never stirring from one spot, is the most restless and changeable woman in the world.”
The capital of Andalusia is dynamic, superb and haughty.
The extreme summer heat makes it difficult to understand how you could live there.
It is so magnificent in its history and charme you would like to be its citizen.
The roman and moorish influence refelcts in gems like the Cathedral, the Alcazár. The time when it florished in commerce and trade during the New World Era is still and heritage in its middle-class look and attitude.
La torre de oro
Alcazár
The moorish palace was started in the 12th century and expanded and continued over the following 500 years, resulting in a multitude of gardend, patios, rooms and a labyrith.
It remindend me of the deinition of Borges about labyrinhts:
Un laberinto es una casa labrada para confundir a los hombres; su arquitectura, pródiga en simetrías, está subordinada a ese fin. (El Inmortal, Jorge Luis Borges)
A labyrinth is a house built to confuse humans, its architecture, full of symmetries, has this objective.
Barrio Santa Cruz
Plaza de España
Built in occasion of the Exposición Ibero-Americana.in 1929 by the architect Aníbal González, it is an a-temporal place where the majestic architecture reminds of mixed styles and ages.
It is not a surprise that the venue hosted a scene in Lawrence of Arabia (scene) but also in the Star Wars Episode II (scene).
